Frequently asked questions.

Should I stay in Tepoztlán the full weekend or can I stay in Mexico City?

We recommend arriving to Tepoztlán on Friday morning and stay till Sunday morning. Tepoztlán is only 45 minutes away from Mexico City but commuting there Saturday morning can be a bit hectic as you could hit traffic leaving the city. Heading back Saturday night woudln’t be ideal as the wedding ends very late (3:00am) so there might be very limited ways to get to Mexico City.

From where and when are the shuttles leaving?

We’ll have different departure times Friday from Mexico City to Tepoztlán and coming back Sunday from Tepoztlán to Mexico City. We’ll share schedules a couple of months before the wedding. Shuttles will leave/arrive at the hotels we’ve recommended here and from the airport (depending on people’s needs for an airport shuttle).

What will the weather be like in Tepoztlán?

During the day Tepoztlán can go as hot as 27°C (81°F) but once the sun goes down, the weather can go as low as 11°C (52°F). Please plan on bringing a jacket for the afternoon.

What will be the weather like in Mexico City?

Mexico City will be a tiny bit colder than Tepoztlan given that it’s at a higher altitude (2,400m or 7,349’). During the day the weather can reach 24°C (75°F) but at night it can go as low as 7°C (45°F). So please plan on bringing a jacket for the afternoon/nights.

What should I wear for each event?

Can I drink water from the tap?

No, while you’re in Mexico please stick to drinking water from water bottles. Some people even choose to wash their teeth with bottled water, that’s up to each of you (it’s not really necessary).

Moctezuma’s revenge:

Legend has it that Moctezuma, the last Aztec ruler before the empire was conquered by the Spanish, cursed all foreigners that landed in Mexico with stomach aches. The condition is seen as “retribution” for the slaughter and enslavement of the Aztec people by Spanish conquistador Hernán Cortés.

If it’s your first time in Mexico we would advise it’s better to be safe than sorry. Try not to eat in the street, and always drink bottled water. From the restaurants we’re recommending in our list, everything is safe to eat. But in other places try to avoid salads, un-cooked vegetables, and seafood.

Are Mexico City and Tepoztlán safe to walk around?

Yes, Mexico City is one of the safest cities in Mexico. There’s no danger with you walking around its neighborhoods. Like every big city, there are neighborhoods that you should avoid but we’re sure you won’t even get close to them. Tepoztlán is a small town and is extremely safe.

If I don’t want to stay in the hotels you recommended could I stay somewhere else?

Absolutely, the hotels are just recommendations, there’re plenty of other options on Airbnb or even other hotels.

Should I visit Mexico City before or after the wedding?

That would depend on your schedule, either way works :)

Can I get around if I don’t speak Spanish?

Many people in Mexico speak both Spanish and English, but not everyone you encounter will. At the airport and hotels you can always find someone who speaks English for any questions you may have. And anywhere else, people in Mexico are very friendly :) and will do their best to try to understand and help. You won’t have any trouble getting around.
